We want to build a better Birmingham by eliminating conversion therapy in our city. This will ensure that all youth, even LGBTQ youth, are given safety and support by our community.
The Affirming Birmingham Coalition is a group of community members and local leaders endeavoring to end the practice of conversion therapy in Birmingham, Alabama. Conversion therapy is the scientifically discredited effort to change one’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Birmingham is the largest city in the state of Alabama, wherein the practice is still legal.
Our Organization
The Affirming Birmingham Coalition (ABC) is a 501(c)(4) organization whose singular mission is to mitigate conversion therapy practices by prohibiting licensed mental health professionals from exercising the debunked measures on minors. This prohibition must be accomplished by a local ordinance of the Birmingham City Council.
